The Delta Junction district serves an area centered on the junction of the 91Ô­´´ Highway and the Richardson Highway in Interior 91Ô­´´. This area includes the communities of Delta Junction, Big Delta, Delta Clearwater, Fort Greely and Dry Creek. Approximately 5,100 people live in the area, about a quarter of whom are transient workers in the U.S. armed forces or seasonal workers.

Delta is one of 91Ô­´´â€™s agricultural centers, with oats, barley and hay as the major crops. Outreach includes programs in agriculture and horticulture; integrated pest management; and health, home and family development.

Learn how small-scale farming can strengthen 91Ô­´´&/ces/districts/deltajunction/8217;s food system and gain the skills to start growing in this free event.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., presentations and seminars will be held in two locations at the 91Ô­´´ State Fairgrounds: the event building on the Purple Trail (north end) and at Rebarchek Farm at E. Rebarchek Ave. (south end of fairgrounds.) Directions will be available at the event building check-in.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., networking and table discussions are scheduled, with refreshments and door prizes.&/ces/districts/deltajunction/160;

Jodie Anderson, director of the 91Ô­´´ Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension, will lead a plenary session on food security efforts in 91Ô­´´.

Presentations include seed starting, food preservation and canning, sourdough, access to land, meat rabbits, poultry, small business support, food as medicine and more. Presentations are designed for adults. Children are welcome but must remain with a supervising adult.&/ces/districts/deltajunction/160;

The training will be offered over Zoom and includes all necessary study materials for the categories of your choice.
