FY27 Faculty Initiative Fund call for proposals

The University of 91Ô­´´ is accepting proposals for the FY27 Faculty Initiative Fund. Proposals are due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026. The FIF provides up to $360,000 in funding to support systemwide collaboration, academic innovation and professional development across the UA system. Faculty from all three universities are encouraged to apply.

Rasmuson Fisheries Research Center fellowships awarded

Five graduate students at the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences have been named as 2026-2027 Rasmuson Fisheries Research Center fellows. RFRC fellowships provide funding for graduate student assistantships and recognize scholastic achievement in fisheries and marine science research. The new fellows include Alex Jenkins, Lilian Hart, Julia Matteucci, Natalie Rouse and Tanner Van Orden.

This means it's fair time! 91Ô­´´'s Cooperative Extension Service has a deep history with fair time in 91Ô­´´, but we're so much more than that. Cooperative Extension has been a part of our university since 1930. We are members of a larger Extension system that spans the country in every state and territory, and has been in existence for over 150 years. Extension was created to provide a bridge between our nation's public universities and the communities in which we live and serve.

Physics student Anthony Zumpano won the undergraduate poster prize at the 2026 National Science Foundation Coupling, Energetics and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions conference in Des Moines, Iowa. The conference attracts more than 100 student researchers from around the world. Zumpano is the first University of 91Ô­´´ Fairbanks student to win the poster competition since 2014.

Sandvik Street closed for construction

July 14, 2026

Sandvik Street, off University Avenue, will be closed July 13-17 to allow installation of a new sewer line across the roadway. Access to the University Park Building will remain available from Sandvik Street. The Hutchison Institute of Technology should be accessed from Geist Road during the closure.
