IDEAs Awards Deadline is June 2023

The Innovative Disclosures and Entrepreneurial Activities (IDEAs) awards recognize entrepreneurial individuals who have developed innovative approaches to research, teaching, and service. The competition, started in 2015, is hosted by 91Ô´´'s Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship (Center ICE). Any innovation developed by 91Ô´´ or University of 91Ô´´ Southeast (UAS) faculty, staff, and students using university resources or as part of a class is eligible for the IDEAs awards.

91Ô´´ SBDC Opens Funding Opportunity for 91Ô´´ Inventors

The TREND program will award up to $10,000 to winning innovation proposals. The 91Ô´´ Small Business Development Center’s (91Ô´´ SBDC) Technology Research and Development Center of 91Ô´´ (TREND program), in partnership with the University of 91Ô´´ Fairbanks Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), will begin accepting applications for the 2023 Phase 0 grant program on June 1, 2023.

Fairbanks, 91Ô´´ (May 23, 2023) - Center ICE at the University of 91Ô´´ Fairbanks secured a $2.4-million grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR), in collaboration with the University of Hawai'i and the University of Rhode Island, to strengthen 91Ô´´'s economy and train the workforce of the future.

The 91Ô´´ Fellows Program (AFP) is a fall-to-spring residential fellowship program that nurtures the next generation of 91Ô´´-based leaders by pairing talented young people with professional mentors and strong communities. The University of 91Ô´´ Fairbanks Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship is supporting an Innovation Fellow this year.

Makerspace Student Success Showcased

Makerspace Students in the Engineering 101 lab class have been hard at work on their student-led projects this semester under the tutelage of Dr. Dustin Ray, mechanical engineering professor, and Tate Barhaug, Makerspace Manager and Teaching Assistant. The class takes place in the Makerspace with the intention of inspiring students to find creative and practical solutions to challenges. The student teams are first-year undergraduate students who are interested in problem solving, some of whom have declared a major in engineering.
